What Does Sun Genomics Do?

At Sun Genomics, we design probiotics tailored to the unique characteristics of your gut microbiome. Based on DNA sequencing of the 1000s of microbes in your gut, we determine exactly which probiotics you need. We then create a personalized formula and ship the capsules directly to you.

What’s New?

  • We were at the San Diego Venture Group last month at the Marriott Marquis in downtown San Diego with our Exhibit Booth on display, showcasing the website, the kits, and our #guttopia! It was a huge success with so much interest that we could barely keep up. To top it all off, the Keynote Lecture by Bill Maris was nothing short of inspiring!
  • The first round of kits has gone out to about 20 early adopters and we are targeting a total of 50 to help us iterate our product for full commercial launch in 2018.
  • The fantastic interns that designed our website and helped out with making the kits for our early adopters have now signed on as part-time employees! The Team Bios will be featured in upcoming newsletters.

Probiotic Superstar Microbe of the Month

Lactobacillus acidophilus ('acid-loving milk-bacillus') lives in your intestine and not only does it produce lactase so that you can enjoy your favorite dairy products, but it’s your one stop shop for vitamin K. It’s used in food, such as yogurt, milk, cheese, kefir, and fermented soy products, such as miso and tempeh. L. acidophilus is one of the most commonly used probiotics so you can be sure we’ve got some in store here at Sun Genomics. Its entire genome has been sequenced so when we tell you that you’re getting a little L. acidophilus in your Precision Probiotic, you can be sure that you’re getting the real deal!

Team Member Bio

Suneer (Sunny) Jain, CEO and Founder

Sunny Jain earned his Master in Molecular Medicine from the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the University of Iowa and did research in the field of Microbiology and Gene Therapy.  Sunny holds a B.S. In Microbiology. He is a certified lab professional by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the California Dept. of Public Health in Molecular Genetics. Previously to starting Sun Genomics, Sunny managed the world’s first CLIA Whole Genome Sequencing Lab at Illumina for 7 years. In 2009, he was a part of the team to establish the Illumina Clinical Services Laboratory and the first Clinical Labortorian to sequence the whole human genome in a CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory and introduced NGS technology into a clinical setting.

Earlier in his career, Sunny had gained assay development experience over immunological and infectious disease molecular assays while working for a start-up company in Malibu, CA. In 2007, he focused his career towards clinical patient testing while working for Labcorp in their molecular oncology reference laboratory located in Irvine, CA. Over the past twelve years, he has been involved in setting up and running clinical molecular testing laboratories as well as developing and validating new assays for use in clinical laboratories. Sunny is an active inspector for the College of American Pathologists overseeing CLIA regulated laboratories.

Knowing he had a penchant for entrepreneurship and seeing the need for Precision Probiotics in the market today, Sunny decided to start his own company in 2016 and Sun Genomics was born.
